As Workshop Site Services Technician, you'll support the daily operations of the Workshop Services function at the Hixon, Stafford, Equipment Refurbishment Centre. This includes hands-on involvement in blasting, painting, fabrication, welding, yard operations, and general site support.
You'll ensure that all tasks are carried out safely, efficiently, and to a high standard, to meet weekly production targets and contribute to the overall success of the site.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Carry out painting and surface preparation of canopy structures, including sanding, priming, and finishing, in an efficient and economic manner and to the required Quality Level, in line with internal procedures.
- To ensure that all parts and assemblies to be painted are safely loaded and secured to trolleys, trestles, or other supports and that no parts are left free standing without a recognised means of support or restraint (i.e. lifting frames support feet).
- Assist with general tasks such as cleaning, repairs, and basic fabrication, final test, inspection and approval of pumps.
- To use all personal protective equipment (PPE) including respirator/air fed mask, goggles, gloves, protective clothing etc. ensuring that it is checked on a regular basis and maintained accordingly and that any faulty PPE is reported and replaced immediately.
- Promote safe working practices as per company processes, and when identified, record near misses on the internal Health and Safety system.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives within the site services function.
- Work collaboratively with other departments to ensure site standards and production targets are maintained.
- Yard coordination and handling of materials.
- Keep the yard and workshops in a clean, tidy, and organised state at all times, ensuring equipment is accessible when needed.
- Assist fitting staff when required, with tasks as instructed, i.e. lifting, moving, both in the depot or on-site.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
Essential:
- A qualification in paint repair (or similar), or previous experience in industrial painting and coating would be beneficial.
- Demonstrable experience as a spray painter with proven experience of spraying to an excellent standard is desirable, but not essential.
- Practical knowledge of preparation of surfaces and application of different paint types, coating thickness etc is desirable.
- Ability to work independently, while recognising overall impact and role to play within the Refurbishment Centre Team.
- Good attention to detail and commitment to quality, with a passion for delivering high quality workmanship.
- Willingness to learn and take on a variety of tasks.
- Strong mechanical aptitude.
- Knowledge of relevant Health and safety, and Quality standards and procedures, including COSHH standards, as relevant to workshop safety procedures.
Preferred:
- NVQ Level 2 or above in Engineering, Fabrication, or a related field.
- Basic fabrication and welding skills.
- Current Counterbalance Forklift truck licence is preferred, although not essential as training can be provided.
- Previous experience in a similar labour-intensive role is preferred but not essential.
- Experience in the pump hire or construction industry is a plus.
