Our Plant Hire range includes excavators, dumpers, telehandlers, rollers and compressors.
About The Role

Our branchin Exeter is home to our Plant Hire, Sales and Service branch. This busy branch requires a Foreman Chargehand to assist our Workshop Manager with the running and management of our workshop.

The Foreman / Chargehand will lead in the workshop and will be involved in Plant Fitting maintenance as required.
Due to the nature of our Plant workshop operation this role will be actively responsible for Health & Safety, People Management, Work shop Co-ordination and the care of Selwood tools & equipment.
 
Responsibilities of this role include:
 
Health and Safety
- Carry out work in compliance with recommended manufacturers’ procedures and having regard for own health and safety, company employees, customers, general public and the environment.
- Adhere to the company’s QHSE procedures at all times.
 

Workshop Coordination
- Proactively assist the Branch Manager with the development and advancement of the workshop staff and premises.
- At all times set a professional example of good discipline, ensure that all Company property and equipment is maintained as to the required Company standard to prevent any accident or injury to any person or damage to Company property.
- In the absence of the Branch Manager ensure that all the necessary administration required for the control of work within the department is completed and submitted to the Hire Manager.
- Report to the Branch Manager proposals for modifications to machines or equipment to increase safe working practises.  
- Support the Branch Manager to improve work methods, systems, procedures and equipment that are likely to reduce waste and cost. Assisting, and where appropriate leading with the implementation of those proposals when approved.
- Help to maintain a workshop repair programme for the maintenance, repair and overhaul of hire fleet, sales and customers’ machines.
- Adhere to and promote the company’s Core Values and Mission Statement.

Tools and Equipment
- To carry out post hire examinations within one working day of the equipment returning from hire.
- Identify any problems relating to extensive costs or repetitive repairs to individual or groups of machines or equipment and report to Workshop Manager. 
- Ensure spares or material requirements are obtained at the right time to ensure the work schedule is effective and does not fall behind schedule. 
- To accept in the absence of the Branch Manager, any emergency/after-hour telephone calls, so as to maintain security of branch and any asset. 
- To monitor and update the breakdown tasks and list of equipment needed according to the depots daily requirements.
- To assist in keeping the depot spares and filters to adequate stock levels.

Qualifications & Skills

Essential:

• City & Guilds Craft Certificate, NVQ Level 3 in Plant Maintenance or equivalent.
• CITB National Construction College Certificate in Test and Inspection (includes the Thorough examination  of Plant). 
• Must have working knowledge & understanding of the LOLER regulations.
• Must have good working knowledge of relevant Health & Safety and Transport legislation.
• Possession of a full valid driving licence relevant to the vehicle category required to be driven, endorsed by no more than 6 penalty points
