About The Role

The Selwood Repair Centre is based in Hixon, Staffordshire and is a busy workshop supporting our Pump Hire network nationwide and is responsible for the servicing and repair of the Pump fleet. We are inviting applications for the position of Workshop Foreman to lead a team of 17 in a variety of roles to ensure the successful operation of the Repair Centre.

The Workshop Foreman will direct and ensure the smooth running of the workshop on a day-to-day basis, maximising the utilisation of resources (staff skills), materials and equipment at a minimal cost. The role will also carry out pump servicing, maintenance, repairs, modifications and improvements as required.

Responsibilities:

  • To be a positive and motivational force within Selwood at all times.
  • Ensure that Company rules and procedures, standard safety measures and fire regulations are enforced.
  • Developing and maintaining a workshop repair programme for the maintenance, repair and overhaul of hire fleet, sales and customers’ machines.
  • Maintain and submit appropriate records and returns as required by the Company or applicable legislation.
  • To be responsible for the quality and standard of work produced by the workshop/ yard staff.
  • Identify any problems relating to extensive costs or repetitive repairs to individual or groups of machines or equipment and report to relevant Manager.
  • Report to the relevant Manager proposals for modifications to machines or equipment.
  • Order spares or material requirements required for preventative maintenance, work in hand or repairs.
  • Design, implement and monitor approved workshops training programmes and development of workshop staff or for other staff as necessary.  
  • Recommend improvements to work methods, systems, procedures and equipment likely to improve efficiency and reduce waste and cost and ensure implementation of those improvements when approved.
  • In conjunction with relevant Manager, control of overtime within set limitations as set by the Business/Branch Managers.
  • Ensure that all the necessary administration required for the control of work within the department is completed and submitted to the relevant Manager.
  • Recommend movement, transfer or promotion of staff of those responsible for.
  • At all times set a professional example of good management and discipline, ensure that all Company property and equipment is maintained as to the required Company standard to prevent any accident or injury to any person or damage to Company property.
  • To be responsible for all damage charges to clients & other depots/ departments.
  • As necessary, to personally carry out work in compliance with recommended manufacturer’s procedures and having regard for own health and safety, Company employees, customers, general public and the environment.
  • To understand and interpret work to relevant instructions and technical information available, so as to carry out all tasks in the most efficient and safe manner.
  • Maintain own work area, whether on customer’s or Selwood sites, in a clean and tidy state.
  • To comply with all PPE requirements, either by Selwood or specific customer site regulations.
  • The main responsibilities are outlined above. This is not a definitive list and other tasks/ activities may be necessary, as the Company’s commercial activities require.

Qualifications & Tickets required:

  • Essential –  Solid working experience in relevant plant / pump repairs.
  • Preferred –  History of working in a supervisory capacity in a similar workshop environment
                     
       Organised with attention to details
                        Good communicator with ability to lead, motivate & support workshop teams.
                        Full driving licence

Restrictions:

Must be fit and able to operate vehicles, Selwood and customer’s, machines without impaired vision or hearing and must comply with statutory medical standards.
